We know that you are all very excited that Australia Day is only a couple of days away! My personal suggestion this year is to take advantage, because it is not too late to celebrate Australia day in Canberra and take part in ALL the fun events! We are talking about some authentic Aussie tucker at the ActewAGL Great Aussie Day Breakfast while being serenaded by beautiful choir songs. If you are traveling with the family, there will be a mega Nerf Zone, a jumping castle and face painting. Everyone wins. Your first step would be getting there. Lucky for you that Skiddoo has some great last minute deals on flights. Check out cheap airfare from where ever you are, to Canberra.Or you can do the package thing and just use Agoda. You can plan the flight and hotel in the same place.
To keep off the heat while you watch and welcome our newest Australians at the National Citizenship and Flag Raising Ceremony hosted at Rond Terrace, your probably going to need the right equipment: comfortable shoes, a decent backpack and a good sun hat which you can find at Cotsworld for cheap. Remember to pack the sunblock and maybe, if you are a jumpy sort of person, you might want to think about getting some travel earplugs when they do the flyover and 21 gun salute. Fantastic to watch, not easy on the ears.
From 4pm, at Regatta Point, there will be a family friendly concert. I just found recently this little gadget called a LayBag that basically is a travel sized lounge chair. Might be a cool option for the concert so that you are not sitting directly on the grass and for later for the fireworks... The concert will be headlined by British India, Choir of Hard Knocks, Young Monks and Hands Like Houses.
At 9 pm, the fireworks will go off over Lake Burly Griffin. Although there are a many ways to enjoy Australia Day, celebrating in the capital is a very special affair.
If this year you choose to stay home and do a hometown sort of celebration, there are still a million things to do all over Australia.
If you are in the Queensland, you are going to want to prepare your tummies for the big BBQ's all over and also the Australia Day Super 8's where you can flex your cricket skills with your new cricket kicks from Sportitude.
If you are in South Australia then you have the great opportunity to see David Campbell and his Big Band - with friends Emma Pask, Mahalia Barnes and Christine Anu who will headline the 2017 event! You will need a good sort of camera to record the event and they have some last minute deals at Scorptec.
If you are Tasmania you will need an accident proof, but also stylish bathers for the Port Sorell Lions Club Waterslide (don't make the same mistake I made last year). Oops! Surf and Stich has some interesting ideas.
If you are in Victoria, you probably have family around here and will be attending their family BBQ.
And finally, if you are in Western Australia, your going to be sipping cocktails by the pool. I found a handy little beer buddy that will let you pass the time, in your own time, celebrating Australia Day how you want to on eBay.
Stay safe, have fun, and don't forget to add #AustraliaDay so that you can be part of the official Australia snapshot. What are your plans for this holiday?
